Castle Trails

Living around the countryside can have its ups and downs. The downfall is not having easy access to city life but a definite upside is how easy it is to pass the time (without spending!) and some of the pretty sites you can discover!
We recently heard about this apparent 'castle' not far from home and made it our mission one Sunday afternoon to go and explore! We like to think of it as a proper little adventure, climbing through trees and trekking across the little rivers so it was definitely a good idea to wear wellies! It took us a bit less than an hour to find the castle but it was complete worthwhile. We definitely enjoyed even the journey to it! Here are a few of the pictures we took on the way

The castle itself was amazing! We were happy, and kinda surprised we actually found it, and it was genuinely unreal! So much of it was still standing and some of the original stone work detail around the front door, the wooden support beams and the mosaic tiles were all still remaining! The grounds surrounding the castle was huge, we got to see some of the old barns and farmland and also the stone wall which surrounded the grounds was still standing. These are a few more pictures of the castle itself and the grounds surrounding.

Entrance to the castle

The tiles which could of been part of the original foyer

Wooden beam support in the arch

Stone markings surrounding the doorway from the outside

Some pictures we took of the outside of the castle

And some pictures from the inside

The chimney which had completely fallen in

A lower ground, possibly a basement

Archway

Rounded wall

Brick work

Pictures from the grounds around the castle

A nearby tree which had been struck by lightning

We were so glad we actually went to see the castle and thought it really was amazing to see and we enjoyed the day loads
